Emotionalism

We have all heard the expression, "Just follow your heart," Your heart, or gut feeling will never stir you wrong." Is that statement true according to the bible? We have even witnessed in some Christian circles a heavy emphasis on hyper sensitivity or emotionalism being preached from pulpits. And unfortunately sinful behavior has been blamed on a personality trait, rather then our sinful nature. The Prophet Jeremiah was right when he said, "The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?" Well, obviously the one that knows our heart is the same person that created our heart God. Yes, it is true that God created us with emotions and feelings. But God does not want us to follow those feelings instead of praying. God does not want us to be led by our emotions. He wants us to be led by the word of God. This human philosophy is the same type of thing that Paul wrote about when he was writing to the church in Colossi when he said, "Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ." Col 2:8 As believers it is our responsibility to make sure that how we feel, how we act, how we live, and how we are being led, is according to the Holy Bible!
