I heard a story about a pastor who went out visiting his church members on a Saturday afternoon. At one house, it was obvious that someone was home, but nobody came to the door even though the preacher knocked several times. Finally, the minister took out his church business card and wrote out "Revelation 3:20" on the back of it and stuck it in the door: The verse says, "Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him and he with me." The next day at church, surprisingly, the pastor’s card turned up in the offering plate. Below the preacher’s message was written the following quote from Genesis 3:10: "I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked and I hid myself." That’s funny and perhaps if this person revealed themselves that would not have been a good thing. Many people today are trying to discover their true self. They might try self help books, life coaches, diets, a new exercise program, or even a personality test. But, what does the bible say about our true self? Jeremiah 17:9 tells us, “The heart is deceitful above all things,And desperately wicked;Who can know it?" The true you is the fact that you are a sinner in desperate need of a Savior. We need God. We need His word. The more closer that you draw closer to Jesus and the bible, the more dependent you become on Him!
