A Giving Church

They say that the mark of a Christian’s maturity level is often measured by their giving. The topic of giving is found throughout the bible. Some churches talk too much about giving. Somehow the minister finds a way to sneak it into every message that he preaches and usually ends it with a collection. Other churches don’t talk about it at all. They leave it out of each message in fear that they may offend someone. Sometimes it is because the minister himself struggles with giving so it, sort of, cancels things out. How could he preach something that he is not doing personally? It’s been noted that the two topics that Jesus addressed often in the bible were hell and money. It seems to me that since Jesus addressed this issue of money then it must be important. A person’s spirituality and pocket book are somehow connected to each other. Jesus said, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” King Solomon said to, “Honor the LORD with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.” The Apostle Paul said, “[So let] each one [give] as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.” A powerful church is a giving church. A spiritual church is a giving church. A church that wants to glorify God is one that glorifies Him in every area of their life including their giving.
