Call on God

Coming to Jesus for the first time is probably the most memorable experience a Christian has. You are so raw and ruff around the edges in the beginning. My friend Ryan said that he was real close to saying a curse word when he was sharing his personal testimony for the first time. Everything is fresh and brand new to you. The bible is a brand new book. Worshiping God corporately is a brand new experience. And even praying in public is something that takes a little while to get used to. I remember I how I use to get so nervous when someone asked me to pray. I heard a story of a guy named Jim who had given his life to Jesus on a Thursday night. He went to a bible study that next Wednesday night followed by a prayer meeting. The study was great and after it was over a bunch of them walked down the hallway to another room where the prayer meeting was going to be. Jim told one guy in the hallway, “I don’t think I can pray as well as you guys, this is all new to me.” The other guy said, “That’s probably a good thing.” Well, the prayer meeting was going and it was time for Jim to pray. As nervous as he was he opened up his mouth and said, “Hello there Lord, this is Jim, do you remember me from Thursday night? I was the one that gave my life to you for the first time, I just wanted to thank you, for calling me to follow you; I’m sorry that I cannot pray as good as the rest of the people here, but it makes me very happy that you love someone like me.” Jim’s simple conversation with the Lord transformed that prayer meeting into an intimate moment with the King of Kings. There was no theology involved in the prayer; there were no great rhetorical words used. There were no verses that were quoted from the bible. It was just a simple prayer from a sincere believer in Jesus Christ who gave his life to Jesus for the first time. Can you relate to that? Psalm 86:5 says, "For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You." Call out to God today!
